| Testimonial of the month My ace in the hole I’m a freelance graphic designer who finds your video training indispensable. Being a former QuarkXPress user, I’ve never had an Adobe InDesign project. I’ve always been able to cover-up my weakness by using Adobe Illustrator. Last week I received the inevitable InDesign project. Instead of freaking-out, I knew I had an "ace-in-the-hole": lynda.com. I spent a weekend watching, and working along with, David Blatner’s InDesign CS5 Essential Training. Three days later, I’m ready to send a spec-ready, PDF/X-4 to the commercial printer. And I can’t say enough about Anne-Marie Concepción’s Acrobat X Essential Training . She set the table for every PDF print job that I send out. I’m pretty conservative when it comes to spending my hard-earned cash (OK, I’m a cheapskate), but there’s no way in the conceivable future that I’ll give-up my monthly lynda.com subscription. Keep those videos coming... —Michael S. Read more great feedback. | Tip of the month | Use keyboard shortcuts to launch the Preview or Play functions in Photoshop Lightroom 4. | Exploring slideshow playback options from Photoshop Lightroom 4 Essentials: Creating Slideshows and Web Galleries After you’ve designed your slideshows in Photoshop Lightroom, you have several options for previewing and playing the slideshows. In addition to using the Preview and Play buttons, you can access these controls by way of keyboard shortcuts. The shortcut to preview on a Mac is Option+Return; on Windows, it’s Alt+Enter. The slideshow will then play in Preview mode, and you can click on the images to exit. To launch the Play function of the slideshow, press Return on a Mac, or Enter on Windows.
While your slideshow is playing, you may want to stop for emphasis on certain pictures, go back to others, or skip a few slides. When the slideshow is playing, press the spacebar to pause, and use the arrow keys to move forward or backward through the images. When you’re done, press the spacebar to start the slideshow again.
You’ll want to engage your audience and keep them interested as much as possible by presenting a strong message. Sometimes that will require jumping around a little bit in order to show a particular photograph, share some insights, or maybe even tell a story. With the keyboard shortcuts in Photoshop Lightroom, you’ll be able to do this with ease, seamlessly navigating around your slideshow without interruption.
